Arabic: Abbreviation of Alaihissalam
English: Peace and blessings be upon him.
Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'la) says in the Holy Quran.
God and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet (Muhammad). O ye that believe! send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect. Al-Ahzab 33:56.
When believers hear and listen the Holy names of Prophets and Imams, they must send [Salwat] on Prophet and His Progeny. Because Hazrat Ali (A.S.) and His Progeny are caliphs of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as He says in his Hadith "I am the city of knowledge and Ali (A.S.) is its door". So believers must come through door to the city of knowledge.
