Significance of Darbari - Pir ji Mani

Can someone please explain the significance of Darbari which is kept on Mukhyani/Kamanyani paat. How does it differ from other Mehmanis bought to khane. I do not think the sub continent jamat has got this ritual and so what significance does it hold in our Tariqah.

There is no religious significance of "Darbari" and "Darbari" is not practiced in many other parts of the world like India and Pakistan.but if you ask about Pir-Ji-Mani then yes, there is a big significance behind it.

But let just talk about Darbari now. The word "Darbari" comes from world "darbar' means the king place where king sits and other peoples comes and presenting gifts, fruits, jewelry "darbari" to him in his honor.
There are other meaning too 'the place where king make justice, his diplomatic office e.t.c.
"Darbari" first started in Africa and after the migration of African Jamat in USA and Canada this tradition they also brought with them and thus "darbari " tradition still practicing here. However there is no religious significance of it except blessing and Khanavadans.

The word Darbari is wrong to describe what is there. It is because people do not understand the concept, they change the name and then slowly traditions disappear.

The proper name is "Pir ji Mani" which means offering of food for the Pir.

Today according to Sultan Muhammad Shah's Will, Mowlana Shah Karim is the PIR of ALL Ismailis (Pir of those who believe in Pir and Pir of those who do not believe in Pir)

This is what my understanding is and also heard in waez (Missionary Abualy) about Mehmaani & Pirji Maani. I am open for any corrections and or comments.

I agree with Admin that there is no such thing as dardaabri in our tariqha. People introduce certain things unknowingly which later becomes tradition. The actual word is Pir ki rotti or Pir ji maani.

Pirji Maani (offering of food for Pir) usually comes from Mukhi/Kamadia's house every day and it is from Jamat as in combined mehmaani to Pir. In olden days they used to keep a small plate on M/K's paatth to collect money especially for Pirji maani if any jamati member feels to contribute towards it they could do so.

Other than the above we (Jamat) have been ordered (Farman) by Shah-Pir to bring every Friday Pir ji Maani & Mehmaani dudh (chapatti & milk). Below is the relevant part from the Granth (Satvenni Ji Vel) with meaning. We have to take couple of Maani and Milk every Friday it is the mehmaani to Shah-Pir. Maani is for Pir and milk is for Shah, the milk is the Saar (dasond) in the form of food.

This does not stop anyone if he/she wants to take mehmaani for any other day. But the above one is Farman for specific day and specific food you can bring extras but the two mentioned thing should be there.

Gurnar-e sat dharam chalaayaa, Gurji-ki rotti denni farmaayaa;
Oos-me fal hay jaa anant apaar, je koi devegaa saache vevaar;
Sohi munivar sargaa-puri jaay, duniyaa maanhe bahu kaam so-hoy;
Esi pere so Gurji bataayaa, tab kai moman chit maanhe laayaa;
Detaa rotti so thaavar raat, saache man-thi so maanhe jamaat;
Chaar varas soye rotti-yaa diyaa, ek sakht moman esaa huaa;
Oos-kaa Fajar-Ali kahiye naam, sidak dil-se so diyaa tamaam;
Fir vo chal gayaa aur-jo desh, chhoddyaa saamraa maanhe apnnaa khesh;
Jaataa basre-ki taraf-e soy, saagar furaat-par chaddyaa hoy;
Hukam Khudaavand-kaa esaa huaa, beddi jaaj hataa soi ddubyaa;
Tab-to maanhe je hotaa saar, ddubann laagaa sarve nirdhaar;
Maalam naa-khudaa sarve ddubyaa, oos dariyaa maanhe dudde maryaa;
Te to moman nav ddubyaa taanhe, rotti-yaa aakar na un-kun taraahe;
Re Tunhi - Do rotti-yaa jo une diyaa,
Soye nichal-e aavi taanhe-re,
Tab te aavyaa anad-taa,
Oose kaantthe taraf taraay-re


Description of Mehmaani for Pir (Pirji Maani)

Gur-Nar started the true religion, and gave the order to give Mehmaani (Maani/Rotti/Chapati) to Pir (Gur). By giving mehmaani you get immense barakat, if given with true intention, love and devotion. Those believers will go to paradise and they will be wealthy in worldly manner too. This is what Pir showed and then many followed with love believing in their heart. Give rotti (Chapati) on Friday night with true intention in Jamatkhana.
There was this believer (momin) in Jamat who gave it for four years without fail. His name was Fajar Ali; he gave it with truth & passion every time. Then he moved from his town (Saamraa) and finished all his business from there. He was travelling on a ship to Basra and the weather was stormy with huge waves hitting the ship. On Lord's command the ship was sunk even though it was enormous (big). Everyone who was inside the ship started drowning helplessly (for certain). All the believers & non-believers started drowning in this sea and they tried to save their lives. But that believer (Fajar Ali) did not drown; in fact he was floating on rotti (something which was the shape of Chapatti) and he was saved by floating on it.

Two chapattis he gave every time, which definitely came to his help.
Then he was very happy and sailed towards the sea shore.

Tab te munivar-kun rahem aayaa, sab-kun pakddi-ne upar laayaa;
Ugriyaa tyaan te to saghrro saath, sab-kun jaalyaa apnne haath;
Rotti-yaa taraa-kar kaantthe pahonchaaddyaa, sohi saghrre salaamat aavyaa;
Fir te rotti-yaa gaayab-j hoi, Gur avtaar paase aavyaa soi;
Jin-kun rotti-ye bachaayaa saar, oos-ne Gurji-kun kahyaa vichaar;
Oos munivar keraa naam jo liyaa, jis-kun rotti-yaa-ne aval taraavyaa;
Tab Nar avtaar-ji bolyaa ev, e to sat-dharmi hay tatkhev;
Rotti-yaa detaa hataa Gur-ke naam, so sab aavyaa is-ke kaam;
Tab oon sab-kun imaan aavyaa, satpanth dharam-e aap kasaavyaa;
Apnnaa kabilaa te sarve laavyaa, ataa ilaahaa te aap kasaavyaa;
Re Tunhi – Bahot lok aalamot-e rahiyaa,
Te rahyaa Khuraasaan maanhe-re,
Ddhraddh vishvaas-e dhyaayaa,
So satpanth dharam maanhe-re


Description of Mehmaani for Pir (Pirji Maani)

And all those people who were drowning were all helpless; When they saw this momin floating on the chapatti, they all started shouting for help saying please give us your hand and let us float on it next to you. Then that momin helped them with mercy. He helped them and took them on board. He took them on board all of them by himself with his own hands and brought all of them up. Chapatti sailed all of them safely to the sea shore, then the chapatti just disappeared (miraculously). They all came to the Pir and told him the whole incident in detailed, that they were saved by chapatti. They also mentioned that momin's (Fajar Ali) name who was first saved by the chapatti. Then Nar (Imam) said that he had always been a true religious person, and he used to give chapatti on Pir's name (to Pir) which came to his assistance. Then all the others got faith and followed the true religion (satpanth) with devotion. All the different tribes followed this religion with all the difficulties but with love & devotion.
O You.... (my True Lord, You are indeed my Beloved)
Many of them stayed in Almot and stayed in Khurasan.
With firm belief they followed and stayed in this true (satpanth) religion.


Memaanni-kaa Dudh-kaa Partaap

Aur-bhi dudh-kaa hukam jo kariyaa, so-bhi Gurnar anvar parvariyaa;
Dennaa shukarvaar-e dudh-j saar, te-to dudh-ki dasond aahaar;
Esaa hukam Gur anvar kariyaa, te-to munivar bahu detaa huaa;
Ek munivar kabhi chukyaa nahi, oos-ghar ek bakri hoti sahi;
Esi barkat hui bakri maanhe, das bacche bakri-ke hu-e taanhe;
So sab do mann dudh jo deti, esi barkat so paayaa soti;
Ek din oos paadde-me agni hui, tis jaal sab oos ghar par aai;
Tab-to chintaa bahu oos-kun thayaa, tab oos ghar par dudh jo varsyaa;
Esaa dudh to varsyaa taaye, oos ghar aag nav aavi kees tthaaye;
Tab-to bahot khushiyaal-j huaa, aur sab dekh-kar acharaj thayaa;
Gur anvar-kun tenne puchhyaa jaai, kesi achrat e Narji hui;
Tab Nar anvar-e un-kun samjaayaa, dudh-ke denne-ki baataa jo kahyaa;
Tab kai jan oos panth-me aaye, shukarvaar-e dudh sab dete taaye;
Re Tunhi – Esaa khel satpanth tannaa,
Te jaanno joog sansaar-re,
Satgur-e esaa bhaankhyaa,
Te munivar-kun nirdhaar-re



Supreme power or authority of Mehmaani milk

And They (Shah-Pir) also commanded about milk, this command was given by Gur-Nar, the holder of light. Give the milk on Friday as “saar” (Dasond); this is Dasond in the form of food. This command was then passed to the jamat by Pir, the holder of the Noor. Many momins (believers) started giving with love. One of the momin never missed giving the milk for mehmaani. He had a goat in his house. That one goat gave birth to ten baby goats. Eventually the growth went up and they produce 40kg milk (1 mann=20kg). One day a fire started in his neighbourhood and it was coming towards his house. He was then very worried (stressed). Then suddenly it started raining milk on his house. The milk-rain was so much that the fire did not even touch his house. He was then very happy and everyone else was amazed after seeing this incident. He then went to Gur (Pir) and asked how this amazing thing happened. The Lord (Imam) who is the holder of Noor explained to him. Imam reminded him about the milk he gave as mehmaani every time. Then many joined in this religion (satpanth), and started giving milk on Friday.

This is the play of true path that whole world should know about it.
True guide foretold to those momins for certain.

Meaning: Whatever is best liked by you in the house give it to the Imam, (H. Virani 1954:51).” The completion of the offering and prayers is to distribute the offering to the congregation in a ceremony called “ Nandi”
