From what i have heard in dar es salaam, there is some hot discussions regarding having chairs in jamatkhana's, whether they should be allowed or not anymore. Are there any thoughts on this issue and if anyone knows do other religious sects have the chair facility for seniors?

The argument can be made for and against....however I would be hesitant to place hardship on the aged, the weak, those who are sick or disabled and I would rely on the quranic injunction for this...."...and HE hath not laid upon you in religion any hardship..." (Sura al Hajj)
The Prophet (SAW) has also declared..." there should be no injury and nobody should injure..." - now if one forces such old or disabled people to sit down and they become injured then we haven't respected the dictate of the Olil Amr when Allahs says "obey the Olil Amr" ! if the Olil Amr says, 'soak your prayer mat in alchohol and say your prayers on them" - then do it as obedience to him is obedience to Allah...we do not have a book of fiqh ! we have a Living Olil Amr !
And also Allah says..." AND WE task not any soul beyond its scope..." (Sura al Mu'mineen)
"Verily God enjoineth justice, kindness and generosity........... and forbiddeth wickedness. HE exorteth you in order that ye may take heed..." (Sura al Nahl).
So now assume that you have to make a decision...what would be your decision....and also take into consideration that many of them may NOT be able to then come for their obligatory salat for medical reasons....what benefit then did we get from all this? weight the variables ! and follow ADL & QIST in arriving at a conclusion....hope this helps !

Chairs have been allowed during Deedar and even the sick have been allowed on stretchers and the Imam has not shown his displeasure over this. We also see people of other persuation saying prayers in their chairs for medical reasons and performing hajj carried in chairs or some kind of carriers. I don't see any reason to remove them but here is a question:
Why is this brought up in the first place and by who? Council? Tariqah Board? The privilege has been abused by some though who not only occupy the chairs even though they just have minor pain of some sort or just because they have crossed a certain age (golden club members
) but hold the chair next to them for friends who have not yet arrived. These senior citizens need to be addressed by someone. Although the volunteers continuously try to keep it fair game some seniors are pretty crafty and innovative.
Or may be the talk is about taking the chairs out of the main prayer halls and putting them in the adjacent and secondary prayer halls thereby encouraging the "bahana baaz" to offer prayer on the floor in the main hall.

This is secondary and tertaiary issue....outside the scope of the narrower issue....unless the first issue is resolved and agreed upon, it would be pre mature to even discuss the secondary issues.
The Imam wants the leadership and young people to look after the aged, the old, the sick, the disenfranchised, the poor etc etc...the question is why? and how does one do this?
If the leadership is overly concerned about chairs in Jks then I sincerely believe their priorities are wrong...rather in their part of the world, they should be more concerned about and focus on the "exploitation" of our women by a muslim sect who are fitnatis ...when women ask them for help or work or apartment for renatl, they try to coerce a "conversion" or they attempt sexual exploitation and want to make these women their mistresses....this is where the council and these local leaders should focus their attention and do what it takes to eradicate this unislamic practice from their midst propagated by some of these decadent so called muslims ...now don't ask me any clarifying questions as I do not wish to talk more on this subject, for the sake of good order... but you can give them my message....I have checked this out and what I am saying is factual....now let them re priortize the issues....many don't know that some third world countries today are still receiving aid because of the Aga Khan's personal guarantees....so if I was the leader in that part of the world, my priority would be to increase the chairs but wipe off the economic capabilities of such Munafiqun and black hearted muslims ! did the Prophet SAW keep any mistresses? is adultery a major sin? I used to criticize people sitting on a chair when I was young and in good health. Now I seat myself on chair.
I look at the people on the chair and I look at those who question us about why we seat on the chair though we look normal and healthy.
I say please give us a break, we are in the departing lounge.

I agree with you Admin, in my jamat khana (uk-manchester) we have chairs for the elderly, or for people that may have ill health, even in islam it says that if you are physically unable to perform sallah, you may use a substitute instead, whether this is a chair, bench, etc. as it is hard for elderly people to keep going down for sajdah and ruku.
