What began as a school event in the 1970s in Tanzania and continued to another continent, Nazir Jaffer has donated blood and plasma over 200 times in Africa and started all over again in Canada. With 425 donations in Canada alone, his journey from a regular donor to a beacon of hope for countless individuals underscores the power of selfless service.

Nazir Jaffer’s story began with a simple desire to help others, inspired by his first experience in school and followed by personal experiences and the pressing need for blood donations in the healthcare system. Over the years, his dedication never wavered, driven by the knowledge that each donation could mean the difference between life and death for someone in need. His contributions have not only provided critical support to patients undergoing surgeries, treatments, and emergency care but have also raised awareness about the importance of blood donation.
Now, Jaffer seeks to amplify his impact by raising awareness about the life-changing nature of blood donation. He aims to encourage more people to become donors, expanding the network of lifesavers and ensuring a steady supply of blood for medical facilities. By participating in the Ismaili CIVIC partnership with Canadian Blood Services, Jaffer has been a champion for the cause.
"It's more than just giving blood. It is the greatest form of charity, the biggest seva. You don’t need any money to save a life," he said, reflecting on his motivations. "Seeing the difference, we can make together, I want people to know that it’s about kindness and the noble act of giving."
This is not just a call to action; it's a testament to what compassion and community effort can achieve. By sharing his story, Nazir hopes to inspire others to join him in this cause, emphasizing that "Every donor is incredible. You don't have to be a hero to save lives. Sometimes, all it takes is your humanity."
