FOCUS

Please check your JKs. I also called FOCUS on Thursday, 1 Sept., and was told they had a meeting and they were going to collect funds and asked me to check with my JK. FOCUS is going to collect contributions, and I believe our volunteers in Texas area will help FOCUS coordinate relief efforts. Remember, disaster in New Orleans was unexpected. U.S. Government was not prepared, so how can you expect FOCUS to be prepared. Considering, they announced their participation on Thursday, is not bad for a small relief agency. Please send your contributions to FOCUS as soon as possible. Virgo

I thought FOCUS was not a small relief agency (http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.c ... d/5462.htm)

You called them on Thursday and they were going to go in a meeting?? So do these agencies sleep until the disasters wakes them up? City evacuation order went into effect on Friday, they should have been prepared for disaster as city only evacuates when there is an intended disaster ... or were they waiting for CNN to announce something just like how our government waited?

I also don't understand why FOCUS don't have their own website. Sure they have website to check their own emails (try to click their link and you'll be prompted for id and password to check email) but they don't have website for anyone else. Do they expect me and you to announce their postal address and telephone numbers via this website or another--to our brothers and sisters who live great distance from any JK?? Or perhaps those distant Ismailis don't even count??

I don't know, I'm not taking their announcement -- of them saving our Ismailis in New Orleans and surrounding cities -- as is. I heard them say in the announcement that we should tell them if we know of any our of relatives in those areas.

I obviously don't need to tell you that we Ismailis do not come under the diaspora of those black poor Americans who suffered a great deal due to lack of funding, we obviously must have fled on our own just like many other white folks did.

FOCUS

Dear Curious,

This is the e mail address of FOCUS: : [email protected]

Compared to Red Cross and other US relief agencies, I think, and I may be wrong, FOCUS is not a big agency. I am sure you have more information than I do.

The Hurricane came on Monday, and Thursday, FOCUS was meeting. I am sure they had to get some guidance from Aiglemont, and gather all senior officials in D.C, which might have taken time for them to conduct a meeting on Thursday.

Al-Hamdullillah, and with Mowla's grace, Ismailis had enough sense and means to get out of N.O.
I hope and pray that Allah give strength to all the displaced people and reunite them with their loved ones. Ameen.

I agree with you. I didn't mean to sound mean to FOCUS or anything, perhaps I was feeling under pressure, it hasn't been easy to keep cool given what our government has done so far.

However, allow me to make one general comment. Having seen our Imam raise the bar at all of his institituions, I generally find myself expecting more and expecting the best from our Insitutions. On this example, I think it sounds really bad if they had to get their act together just like everyone else.

Anyway, I think we have always done good and we always strive to do better. Hopefully, one day they'd come up with their own website so others can donate conveniently. As of right now, I'm assuming they must have a valid reason for not coming up with their website for general public.
