ismaili popluation in India (which cities?)

Post by bcom »

Which cities in India have a large ismaili population?

I know there is Bombay among others. But which other cities in India have a large ismaili poplution.

Also which "smaller towns" or villages in India have a large ismaili population?

Does anybody know where i can find a comprehensive list on this?

I think somebody must have made some research about the geographic distribution of Ismaili settlements in the world. But I can imagine that these researchs are held secret for the security of the Ismaili community.

It is very hard to find such kind comprehensive list of Ismaili population, however I can tell you about the 3 state where most Ismailis are living right now.
1, Maharashtra State ( Mumbai, Pune)
2, Gujarat State ( North Gujarat, Saurashtra( Kadhiawad) Kutch and south Gujarat
3, Andhra Pradesh/Telangana ( just changed the name of the state last month) ( mostly in Hyderabad, Warangal and suburben area )
It does not mean that besides these three state Ismailis are not living any where, they are living other parts of India but they are not many in population. I find out this during my India's last year trip, may be I am wrong.

As per my thinking too many times,( one time I was in India and this kind counting took place) but sorry that were not for Jamat knowledge, only for councils and higher authorities you may contact directly with them and request for the list, if you lucky then you may receive it, contact National Council of India. Good luck. By the way I forget to write Punjab state in my above post.
