Taqiyya and Conversion

Post by hamidsalim21 »

Hi,

I am a young Sunni Muslim, who has deep interest in Ismaili Tariqah and its doctrines. I have been reading up literature on the Heritage Society and other books written by famous Ismaili authors. My intention is to convert to the Tariqah and its practices in the next 1-2 years when I have amassed more knowledge. I really like the estoric and batini aspect of Ismaili Shi'ism. The only question is that I am living with my parents, and they are orthodox Sunni. I have struggled with my Sunni Islamic sectarian identity for a long time, and I think Ismailism' vibrant history and logical interpretation in light of changing times by Mawlana Hazir Imam is very crucial for the world. The question that I have is that if I contact the ITREB in the future, will they be probing my parents. Also, is it possible that the ITREB will take my case lightly or refuse me entry due to my parents being Sunni?

Also, I know that in Ismaili Shi'ism there is a practice called Taqiyya whereby the follower can not disclose his/her religious followings to those who can harm or ruin him. I have tried to preach the doctrines of Ismailism to my parents but they won't listen to me. Their teachings are firm and they are older, hopefully my ideal goal is to learn more about Ismailism and practice it and then slowly with kindness and warmth bring them closer to the Tariqah.

I don't want to be harsh to my parents or get into a big argument, because in the Islamic religion, the importance of respect for parents and elders is if utmost importance. So, my question is that is it allowed for me to live with my parents and offer my Ismaili Dua and other practices in the Jamat Khana but not disclose this information to them.

Thanks,

Hamid

Brother Hamid Salim,
As per my thinking asking any question reagarding convertation in this forums is not right place to seek proper and correct answer , you should contact with ITREB as you mentioned in your post if you still not receive satsifactory answer from ITREB than you should contact with local and national councils of your jurisdiction. Good Luck.

brother hamid, first of all peace and mercy of allah[swt] and imam e zaman[as] be upon you who has chosen you and guided you to ismaili tariqah = siratal mustakeem , brother you dont have to wait for 2-3 years to practise ismailism because ismailism is like an ocean [vast and rich in knowledge]

our religion is like an ocean and you my friend is like a SAND on the shore, everytime a wave comes to the shore it cleanses the sand [ purifies its ]. Each wave brings knowledge and blessings , this purification is the essence of our tarikah and it is obtained not by tobo tobo taksidaar because even a thief who comes to jamatkhana regualrly can say tobo tobo but his repentance go in vain because the next day he does the same stuff ....its the same with those who dont have any knowledge about our religion [inshort BLIND BELIEVERS]

the only person whose sins are forgiven are those who have knowledge about the essence of our tarikah and quran because those who believe in quran and our madhab will be scared to commit a sin

once again i congratulate you and i want you to continue your research but not by sacrificing you dua [ what if you leave this world tomorrow?? do you wanna die as a sinful or sinless person ??? ]

regarding your parents brother, allah[swt] has informed us that we should be kind to our parents so i want you to be kind to them and observe takiya ...when the time is right allah[swt] will himself show them the true path

and dont you worry about ITREB, after all its run by set of people and not imam e zaman personally, believe in allah[swt], rasool[saw] and imam[as] and say the kalima and imam ali[as] will accept you as his momin

Inability is a disaster; patience is bravery; abstinence is a treasure, self-restrain is a shield; and the best companion is submission to Divine Will

IMAM ALI [AS]

Divine786, agakhani, akbaraly and all the other people on the forum Thank You for providing encouraging advice and directing me to go through proper channel.javascript:emoticon(':D')

I am going to be dedicating Insha Allah 1-2 hours every day, skimming through the Ismaili Heritage website resources to learn more about the Tariqah practice and the reasoning behind it. In addition I have looked up some good Ismaili History scholars such as Farhad Daftary, Ali Asani, Henry Corbin and many others, whose resources I will be reading over to learn about Fatimid and Ismaili history and how it has changed to become what it is today.

At the same time, I am going to try to hifz or memorize the Ismaili Dua and get into a habit of reciting it 3x a day. Also, I will learn the meaning of the dua, and in a year or so when I have done my full-research, I will submit a full-fledge application letter to ITREB.

I want to have as much knowledge as possible about the Tariqah practices when I submit my application, because I want to learn as much as I can, and the more I learn and the more my heart is on the right path following the Tariqah and teachings of Mowlana Hazir Imam and the Qur'an ...the more I will flourish

Thanks for all your help.

As-Salama-lykom brother Hamid

First of all, I congratulate you for finding your Imam of the time, the progeny of our Beloved Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him and his Family). I wish you success in this path and may your knowledge increase Inshallah. I would suggest if you please brother read this amazing book in order to have a good comprehending of Shia Imami Ismailsm Muslim "Introduction to Ismailism"
By Dr. Sheikh Khodr Hamwi {1970}

http://www.lulu.com/items/volume_5/1800 ... 180755.pdf

There is a Hadith of our Beloved Prophet Mohammad (a.s.a) in the book of NahjulBalaghah....

Al-Hakim recorded in his Mustadrak, that Abu Than (a famous companion of Prophet Mohammad (a.s.a) whose truthfulness is known to the Muslims) said that the Messenger said:

"The example of the members of my House is like that of Noah's ark. Whoever embarked on it was safe, and whoever failed to embark was drowned.

Brothers! First of all let me congratulate you for your excellent posts and good advices to brother Hamid. I was highly amazed to read your knowledgeable posts. My sincere request to Mr. Hamid would be to wait until the end of this year 2009 or so, when our Imam-e-Zaman would be touching/introducing Fatimid period to present time/era, as per his Taliqa Mubarak of December 13, 2008. And brother Hamid as you mentioned, Farhad Taftary is not an Ismaili scholar. Actually he is an Ithna Ashari (Shia twelver) scholar. Iman has chosen him for his liberal views on Islamic theology and presently he is based at Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) London, and he is doing his advanced research not only on Ismaili Tariqah, but also on the whole Islamic doctrines. You would be surprised to know that at IIS many non-Muslim scholars are doing their advanced research, because the Imam is for all the humanity and not only for Ismailis, and in his farameens (sermons) Imam is talking about 'Pluralism'. Brother I would like to mention here that becoming Ismaili is an easy thing, but becoming a 'Momin' (true believer) is very difficult, because we have to keep a balance between Deen and Dunya (Religion and worldly affairs) and try to become a good human-being besides with our religious practices and we have to give up some of our likes or dislikes, and we may not become harmful to the creation of Almighy God.

Brother Baqi,

Taliqa Mubarak page.....5. It is also in this context that I have instructed my institutions to make available to the Jamat globally, within the next year or so, a formal, uniform text of Shia Imami Ismaili Namaz that I will have approved.....

Brother the 15-page Taliqa Mubarak is available at the Local Council/Jamatkhana where you live in and you can study the whole pages.
