Saima, I think gays and lesbians are just like straights …it’s their sexuality not social relations, unless if someone is straight but wants to mingle with non-straight folks then it might be considered “social relation” or something… and…uh…with cigarettes, drugs and stuff, yes you technically can...

Journey to Mecca
Has anyone seen the Journey to Mecca: In the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta? I was thinking of going to the IMAX, but wasn't sure if it was worth it. On the same note, I wanted to know who Ibn Battuta is. Is he linked to Ismailism in some way? Just curious.

In Toronto, the Golden Jubilee Darbar day 1, Hazar Imam mentioned that the Imam is never loaded! This again is open to interpretation. I have spoken to several people to get their understanding of this. The two most common interpretations are as follows: 1. Loaded = Rich. The Imam showers all the ba...

Obama's speech in Cairo, Egypt
For those who haven't heard Obama's speech in Cairo, I would suggest that you take a look at it. He spoke very highly of the Muslim world and it's inventions, mentioned Al-Azhar University twice in the speech, and quoted the Holy Quran thrice. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/06/04/obama.ane...

<t>In one of Abu Aly's waez, he mentions that we will have a war with Dait Kalinga which will be similar to Mahabarat. After Mahabarat, he states, about 90% of the population was killed, and the 10% left had to start from zero. The world was primarily dormant with no major activities. This went on f...

My guess would be because Jews and Christians don't regard Prophet Ismail of any significance. They turn to Prophet Ibrahim and Isaac. Since this story is about Prophet Ismail and not Isaac, the other people of the books don't really pay any attention to it. But again, I don't know much about the de...

There is an English translation of The Code of Conduct by Qadi Noman. I purchased it from the Jamat Khana library for $2 or $3. So it's not very expensive. There were few waezes that took place preceding the Golden Jubilee Darbar and this book was recommended then. So I purchased it about a year ago...

News article about an Ismaili family in Ottawa
A friend of mine sent me the following link from the Ottawa Citizen posted in January 2009. It talks about an unfortunate incident that occurred with an Ismaili family. What caught my attention is that the non-Ismaili newswriter, Kelly Egan, briefly talks about how close-knit the Ismaili community i...
